Gabriel Gasparinatos is an ARIA, Walkley and ADG nominated filmmaker in Sydney. His debut feature documentary, the Netflix Original ONEFOUR: AGAINST ALL ODDS premiered at SXSW Sydney in 2023 and was released globally to critical acclaim. Critic Margaret Pomeranz described it as “an incendiary and powerful film that provokes both outrage and compassion. A cautionary tale for those of us opposed to censorship and discriminatory police powers.” The film was nominated for a Walkley Award, was introduced into University Law Syllabus, and led to a reckoning with police powers in NSW. NSW Police attempted to shut down the global premiere, enforcing a pay-for-policing tactic that led to metal detectors on entry, plain clothes police officers in the audience, all attendees being frisked, and restricting the festival from selling individual tickets. Gabriel’s commercial and music video work includes projects for Beats By Dre, Adidas, Google, Julia Stone, Coca Cola, NBA 2k, Baker Boy, The Powerhouse Musem, A-Leagues, Commbank, Spotify, Slater & Gordon, Kawai, Triple One, Sony Music, We Are Warriors, Keith Urban and more.
Beyond directing, Gabriel’s guest lectured at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, mentors emerging Western Sydney film creatives through programs with Street Uni and Music NSW, and has delivered keynotes for Sony Australia, Cannes in Cairns and Apple. Gabriel actively participates in writing and development rooms for TV.
Gabriel is currently writing his debut scripted feature alongside Nooky and is in development on a handful of factual projects.
Gabriels work explores power, class and the changing face of modern Australia.
Gabriel is represented domestically by Revolver (commercials) and HLA (film and TV).
